How is this different from other Culture Related nonprofits?
Many nonprofits focus on preserving cultural practices (dance, food, language), and, while these are important, they often overlook the crux of culture: the lessons and wisdom passed down through generations. At GrowingYourRoots, we are passing down this wisdom to empower the future. Through our interview series and teen led blog, we create a space where young people can learn from older generations, and share their own voices and experiences.
How can I contribute to the blog or podcast?
We are always looking for teens to share their stories! Whether it’s a recipe, a poem, an essay, or an interest in being interviewed, please reach out to us via the contact form. We’d love to hear from you.
How can I start a Growing Your Roots chapter?
We are currently developing a Chapter Starter Kit which will be available soon. It will contain all the resources you need to launch a chapter in your area. Sign up on our Chapters page to be notified when it’s ready!
Who can participate in Growing Your Roots programs?
Our programs are primarily designed for teens, but we welcome participation from everyone. Elders sharing wisdom, community leaders organizing events, and families participating in potlucks are all crucial parts of our community. If you feel connected to our mission, there’s a place for you here.
